Projects that restore and protect high-priority aquatic resources may be awarded funding through the Maine Natural Resources Conservation Program. Its 2023 grant cycle is expected to open in May, with letters of intent due in late June. The program is administered by The Nature Conservancy on behalf of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and funded by the DEP’s In Lieu Fee Compensation Program that allows entities affecting natural resources, particularly wetlands, to make a payment directly to the DEP instead of the usual mitigation process.
