FREE PRESS • September 1, 2021

As the earth’s “first responder,” ice communicates the effects of a warming planet. Internationally known glaciologist, climate scientist and polar explorer Paul Mayewski will lead a program titled “The Arctic, Maine, and the First Abrupt Climate Change Event of the Modern Era” via Zoom for Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, September 7, at noon, free. Mayewski will speak about his expeditions to observe Arctic ice and how atmospheric emissions from human activity are affecting the Arctic at a rate two to three times more than on the rest of the planet. He will also explain how what happens in the Arctic affects Maine.
