Ariah Lowell’s oil painting, which she composed using a photograph of a harlequin duck she took in Ogunquit, won Best in Show in Maine and placed third in the national competition in the same category. Her mother, Rebekah Lowell, and sister, Elektrah, 14, also have placed in the state duck stamp competition. This year, Elektrah Lowell took first place in the junior contest in her age group – grades 7 to 9. The two girls are homeschooled by their mom and all three bird together.
