Editorial: A strong Maine farming industry starts with healthy soil

PORTLAND PRESS HERALD • March 8, 2021

Maine should follow 11 other states and establish a program to help farmers improve their yields and fight climate change. That was the message last week at a hearing that would create the Maine Healthy Soils Program within the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry: The future of Maine farming is full of potential. No taxpayer money is needed to start the program. It would initially run on grants.
