Though Maine currently has wonderful trails for hiking, biking, skiing, snowmobiling, commuting, and other uses, many of our trails are in serious need of repair and maintenance. The Maine Trails Bond (LD 1156) would provide $30 million over four years for the design, construction, and maintenance of trails of all types. Maine currently provides essentially no funding for trail projects, sprinkling a small amount of federal funding across the entire state. But this falls far short of the need, and the potential. The Maine Trails Bond would be our first State-funded grant program dedicated specifically to supporting trail development and maintenance.
