Howard Hill geology topic of May 13 walk

Bob Marvinney, a retired state geologist, will lead a geological tour of Howard Hill Historical Park and the surrounding area at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13. The event is free and open to the public, and sponsored by Kennebec Land Trust. Participants will learn about the metamorphic rocks and granite at Howard Hill, which record more than four hundred million years of Earth’s history. Howard Hill rises up behind the Maine State House, and is a 164-acre park owned by the city of Augusta, with a conservation easement held by Kennebec Land Trust.
