I write in reply to a letter by John Neal of Greene. His letter condemns Central Maine Power for its recent “egregious and painful” rate hike. The only rate CMP controls is the “delivery rate.” That rate is currently .086420 per kwh. The rate that recently increased drastically was the Standard Offer or the actual power supply (the kwh) to a price of $0.176310, and thus a total cost of $0.26273 for actual power and delivery. CMP is not the enemy, and that a state-run and controlled energy provider is doomed to be a “disaster.” ~ Edmund Lewis, West Farmington
