Letter: Dog deaths underscore need for coyote protection

PORTLAND PRESS HERALD • March 10, 2023

The recent killing of two pet dogs in Connecticut is just another example of why we need to restrict the year-round killing of our coyotes. This means no more pups starving to death in their dens because parents are being killed during pup season, night and day, with no rest for them; their fellow domestic canines are suffering, too. I encourage Maine people to email our legislators about this. This is what a “free for all” looks like. These are not hunters; true hunters know exactly who they are aiming at. Let’s put an end to this violence. ~ Deanna Arute, Rockwood
