In 2009, the MDIF&W, in conjunction with the Maine Professional Guide’s Association (MPGA), created the Wiggie Robinson Legendary Guide Award. As was fitting, Robinson was the first (posthumous) recipient of his namesake award. Since Robinson set the stage and served as the role model for the Legendary Maine Guide Award, there have been a number of other deserving Maine guides singled out for this special recognition: Gil Gilpatrick, Dan Legere, Gary Corson, Matt Libby, Don Dudley, Don Helstrom, Bonnie Holding and Polly Mahoney. If you know an award-worthy Registered Maine Guide, take the time to write that nomination letter. It is a way to show appreciation for the important role they serve in the outdoor community. ~ V.
