State environmental regulators have granted extensions to hundreds of companies seeking more time to comply with Maine's new reporting requirements for PFAS in their products. Manufacturers who sell products in Maine had until Jan. 1 to report intentionally-added PFAS, also known as "forever chemicals," in their products to the state's Department of Environmental Protection. Nearly 1,900 manufacturers had received an approved extension from Maine DEP as of Dec. 21. The Maine Chamber of Commerce has been encouraging companies to apply for an extension, noting that businesses will struggle to identify and report intentionally-added PFAS due to supply chain, intellectual property and other challenges.
