Last week Norway Town Manager Dennis Lajoie hosted representatives from the Center for an Ecology-Based Economy, the Governor’s Office of Policy, Innovation & the Future, the Governor’s Energy Office and Androscoggin Valley Council of Government for a roundtable discussion about challenges transitioning to meet new demands for updated infrastructure. “Norway is way ahead,” noted Hannah Pingree, director for GOPIF. “We’re here to learn about what you’ve done and how you plan ahead. Norway leaders have focused on finding practical solutions to stem increasing energy costs while managing services like its public wastewater system. Those solutions have included an energy audit of the town’s municipal headquarters and upgrades that have saved Norway money, utilizing grant funds to install a solar system to process wastewater and installing LED bulbs and smart technology to operate streetlights.
