Here is video we recently received of canids in northern Maine. They appear to be adults and pups. The videos were taken as recently as mid-August 2022, when pups were approximately 16-18 weeks old. The science of Eastern wolves is that some pups disperse as early as fifteen weeks of age-before they are fully grown. We are not saying these are wolves. We are saying they look wolf like and may be Eastern wolves. An analysis of video of one of the animals found it to be at the lower end of the height range for Eastern wolves. Head on views of the animals show the wide forehead typical of wolves. We'd like to hear what you think about these incredible animals. We will be following up in the area to look for scat for DNA analysis.
