Letter: One method for handling endless ticks

KENNEBEC JOURNAL • June 29, 2022

I put on tall, rubber “farmer boots” before going outside. I pull my pant legs down over the tops of the boots to keep things from falling in. I then spray bug repellant on the lower pant leg, my cuffs, and on my hand to wipe on exposed parts of hands and body. Despite this, I can still come inside with up to a dozen ticks. If not imbedded, I lay a piece of tape over them, put it on paper and date it to send to the state lab to test for the disease spread map. If imbedded, they are pulled off with a tweezers and transferred to the tape. If more than 24 hours or engorged with blood, call the doctor for antibiotics prescription.I have taped 26 ticks so far this season. ~ Harvey Versteeg, Augusta
