The Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands stewards a visiting artist program that allows artists to work in the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. The northern Maine wilderness has inspired artists and writers for hundreds of years. One selected artist and a guest will receive lodging at the wilderness waterway’s Lock Dam Camp, a one-room cabin, for two weeks in August. They’ll also receive orientation from rangers. The cabin is 60 miles from the nearest town of Millinocket. Applications are due to the state by Feb. 28.
