DEFENDERS OF WILDLIFE • February 23, 2022
The list of newly approved tools to kill wolves is starting to read like a horror novel. In Montana, Idaho and Wyoming, wolves still face deadly persecution. Even as the courts have restored federal protections to wolves in other states, wolves in the Northern Rockies will continue to be hunted and killed in horrific ways. Night vision goggles to stalk and kill wolves after dark. ATVs, snowmobiles and even helicopters to chase them until they’re exhausted before finishing them off. Baited traps placed just a mile or less outside Yellowstone National Park. It’s not enough that the number of dead wolves is skyrocketing – now the enemies of wolves are determined to make killing them even easier.
