While campaigning this fall, Republicans raised concerns about high heating and energy prices, calling for quick action to address them. The House of Representatives passed the legislation earlier Wednesday on a 125-16 vote. But Republicans in the Maine Senate blocked passage Wednesday of an emergency bill to provide $450 checks and heating and housing assistance to struggling Mainers this winter.
