Hallowell council votes to table controversial pesticide ordinance

The City Council on Monday narrowly voted to table the first reading of a controversial pesticide ordinance after residents and officials raised concerns about the city’s authority and ability to enforce the policy. The ordinance was first presented to the council in August and would prohibit the use of any synthetic substances and the use of any pesticide within 75 feet of any body of water. About 30 other cities and towns in Maine have enacted similar policies.
