Controversy on the Kennebec River

FOX NEWS • August 24, 2021

There is controversy on the Kennebec River swirling around the fate of Atlantic salmon and how to protect them. Environmentalists are calling for change while the opposition says their methods work successfully. Atlantic salmon once dominated rivers across the United States, but here in Maine the wild population has plummeted, and to revitalize the species some conservation groups are looking to shut down multiple damns on the Kennebec River. In July 2021,  an environmental assessment draft from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission stated the removal of the dam is not necessary. Environmental groups said the draft simply did not give a “thorough enough evaluation” of the dam’s environmental impact.
