PAC spending on CMP power line referendum hits $15.2 million in 2021

PORTLAND PRESS HERALD • July 16, 2021

Supporters and opponents of a 145-mile power line expansion through northern and western Maine have spent more than $15 million in 2021 in their efforts to sway voters ahead of a statewide ballot question in November. Voters in the power line expansion referendum will be asked if they want to ban the New England Clean Energy Connect project and require the Legislature to approve similar projects by a two-thirds vote going forward. Since forming in 2019 to support the corridor, Clean Energy Matters has spent $25.2 million in an attempt to gain voter support for the power line.
