Maine’s fish and wildlife are not just exciting to watch, they also provide substantial economic and ecological benefits. We need to protect biodiversity and vulnerable species to keep intact the valuable products and services these plants and animals provide to humans and ecosystem health. Thankfully, Congresswoman Chellie Pingree is taking action to do just that. Pingree is a cosponsor of House Resolution 69, which calls for the federal government to establish a national strategy for protecting biodiversity for current and future generations. We greatly appreciate her leadership to help curb the extinction crisis occurring in every U.S. state, including Maine. ~ William Durkin, Friends of the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, & Melanie Sturm, Natural Resources Council of Maine
