Cynthia DeSoi of Greene and Cameron Brown, Brad Olesen and Amy Smith of Lewiston removed a 45-foot crew boat Friday from the top of a van near Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston. The boat, called a shell, is one of three that belong to a new program called Lewiston Rowing. The program will be based near the park and will offer classes and teach children how to row. Smith said the four-person boat will be on display Tuesday during Touch a Boat on Bartlett Street and emphasize water safety. A new dock being installed on the Androscoggin River by the city and two more crew boats will be in town by July 24 for the Riverfest Regatta. DeSoi said she rowed in high school and in college. She picked the sport back up during the COVID-19 pandemic and is thrilled that a rowing program is coming to Lewiston.
