David Trahan, executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, describes how both Democratic and Republican legislators support a bond to fund the Land for Maine’s Future program to buy deer yards. However, partisan fighting over how to pay for it is jeopardizing the chance of passage. He is especially frustrated with Rs representing the rural areas most affected by the loss of hunting opportunities and the economic benefits those provide, who are playing chicken with the funding to try to gain political advantage.
