Today is Rachel Carson's birthday! Born on May 27, 1907, Carson was a scientist, a writer, and a tireless advocate for nature. She also co-founded the Maine chapter of TNC. To celebrate, we have nominated Rachel Carson to appear on Maine's $1 coin. The Office of the Maine State Treasurer is currently accepting ideas for "a state-specific innovation and/or innovator in the field of science, its impact and connection to the state" to be featured on this coin. Who better than Rachel Carson?!
