From what I read about the fishing industry’s opposition to offshore wind, there’s no alternative plan to a great big, “no.” Nothing is being proposed to offer a model of local control, to counter “foreign energy companies” or to otherwise protect the ecosystem that is already being harmed by rapidly increasing ocean temperatures. My biggest difficulty however, is with the attitude that because those in the fishing industry make their living from our common ocean waters, no one else should be allowed to. Maine has a real opportunity to “do it right” here and I fervently wish that the creative and hard-working people in the fishing industry, who are taking such an uncompromising stance, would instead come up with viable options to make this work to benefit all of us and our common environment. ~ Gina Snyder, Harpswell
