In time for the spring migration, a new birding trail has opened in the woods of western Maine. The Mahoosuc Land Trust’s Valentine Farm birding trail in Bethel puts an emphasis on education. Artwork strategically placed along the trail helps educate birders. Barbara Murphy, Mahoosuc Land Trust’s development director, created the trail, which is a two-thirds of a mile loop that skirts the woods and water. The area is home to an array of bird species. Murphy said that while anyone can hear them, she envisioned a better way for people to spot them. It begins with the original artwork of science illustrator Becca Hoskins.
