Rare yellow lobster caught off Maine coast

BANGOR DAILY NEWS • February 4, 2021

A Tenants Harbor lobsterman recently made an unusual discovery when a yellow lobster was caught in their net. Marly Babb decided to keep the crustacean and donate her to the University of New England’s Marine Science Center, who then named her Banana for her yellowish hue, the university said. The catch is extremely rare. Only one in about 30 million wild lobsters have yellow shells, according to the New England Aquarium. The National Science Foundation has awarded a $86,0000 grant for a study of the impact that a warming Gulf of Maine is having on lobster larvae.
