Water level manipulation is key to natural Sebec Lake salmon reproduction

BANGOR DAILY NEWS • February 18, 2021

One project that required several years involved the passage of wild salmon on Wilson Stream in Willimantic. Most of the wild salmon reproduction is from Earley’s Falls to Tobey Falls. Tobey Falls is impassable to salmon most of the time. Those that do pass will go on to spawn and hopefully complete the life cycle, but it’s a difficult journey and there will be high mortality rates even for those few successful fish. We have worked diligently to improve conditions for the salmon to reach Sebec Lake. ~ Tim Obrey, regional fisheries supervisor, Moosehead Lake region, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife
