Deering Oaks will be temporarily closed and the Portland Farmers Market will move to Payson Park for up to six weeks to allow the city to apply pesticides to control an infestation of browntail moths. The city’s Pesticide Ordinance contains an exemption that would allow pesticide use if public health and oak trees as old two centuries are at risk, according to Ethan Hipple, director of the Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department.
