A community foundation’s land protection grants will preserve hundreds of acres of forests, farms and shoreline in Maine this year. The Maine Community Foundation’s Maine Land Protection grant program has awarded $250,000 to eight nonprofit groups in the state for the project. One of the grantees, Downeast Lakes Land Trust, will acquire more than 2,000 acres in Lakeville to expand its Downeast Lakes Community Forest project, the foundation said. Kittery Land Trust will preserve 30 acres for use as an outdoor center for students, farmers and others.
