Letter: Corridor would create ‘genuine reduction in atmospheric carbon’

SUN JOURNAL • October 29, 2021

Yes, Central Maine Power is a poorly-run company, owned by an overseas energy conglomerate. For now, this is what we’ve got, and so the issue with the New England Clean Energy Connect corridor is really about carbon reduction. Yes, some trees will be cut, but the carbon reduction that would come from replacing fossil fuels with hydropower is far more significant, and will go on for years. Maine suffers from climate change no matter where the burning of fossil fuels takes place, and we will benefit no matter where such burning is replaced with clean energy. Think globally, not locally, in order to get the best local result. Vote no on Question 1. ~ Jonathan Cohen, Farmington
