During the COVID-19 period, Maine land trusts can continue to perform basic stewardship practices on properties, such as monitoring public use and ensuring trails are safe, without being declared an "essential business." Be sure that staff, volunteers, and the public continue to follow distancing guidelines: 6 foot spacing, no large groups, avoid sharing equipment and minimize risky activities that might lead to the need for rescue services, etc. When in doubt, use common sense to ensure stewardship actions are not contributing to the spread of the virus.
