MAINE ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS • April 30, 2020
Former Republican Gov. Paul LePage said Wednesday that he plans to challenge Democratic Gov. Janet Mills in 2022. LePage did not explain how as a resident of Florida, to avoid paying his fair share of taxes to support Maine, he can run for governor here. He did say he will fly back to Maine next Saturday “and I will become a resident of Maine, not to leave anymore.” LePage did not promise to self-quarantine and did not say if he has been tested for COVID-19 or the mental illness he has suffered for years. Environmental advocates point out that during his eight years as Maine governor, LePage set back the state at least half a century. So far, his only campaign promise is to “give you a lot to write about.”
