Rockland Public Library will offer a free online presentation by author Michael Hillard at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 11. From the early 20th century until the 1960s, Maine led the nation in paper production. Hillard’s new book, “Shredding Paper,” discusses the history behind the rise and fall of Maine’s paper industry. Telling the story of labor relations and worker experiences, Hillard’s portrayal of the defunct paper industry centers on blue-collar workers and families. Hillard is a professor of economics at the University of Southern Maine. Email elewis@rocklandmaine.gov for a link to the Zoom event, and identify the event in the subject line.
