A Mainer has been working to restore the Atlantic salmon population that is vital to our ecosystem. After 20 years of work, Paul Christman has the numbers to prove the salmon are back. Christman has received the 2022 Trout Unlimited Conservation Professional Award. “The early to mid-2000s, we were working on really the technology in getting Atlantic salmon in the watershed via egg," Christman said. The process involves planting the salmon eggs in the sediments at the bottom of the river during the winter months. Upwards of one million eggs were given to the project for reintroduction purposes. Once the fish start migrating, the begin to be tracked.
